Sculpted, painted, and added bump-mapping to the skull in Sculptris, then imported it into a scene within 3ds Max. I am really satisfied with the result, and to be honest the only thing I think that could be altered would be the sand texture to make it seem more detailed, and possibly the background to make it seem less "clashing" with the skull's shadows.
